Texas Sized Sketch Book

In honor for my week long trip to visit my brother Doug in Austin TX, I have made a TEXAS SIZED SKETCH BOOK. It is 153 pages thick and comprises paper of many varieties, from heavy printmaking paper, to Bristol board, to graph paper, to a sketch vellum, and many more. The pages are 11" x 14" with a 11" x 12.5" usable area its pretty heavy too. So to sum it up, it's a beast.

General work

So here is some general work I have done this semester, really just focusing on techniques and craft more than concepts so there are some monoprints here, and some silk screening as well as the ink film that made the screens.

I'll start with some monoprints...

and now the ink film...

and the first shots at the screen prints from the ink film...

2 layers

3 layers

They are getting there, I need to reprint the first 2 layers with more transparent base in the ink on fresh paper.
The registration is ok, a little off but I will be using pins and tabs on my edition to ensure they print accurately.

more to come when I make them.

"Parental Proverbs"

This is the project I am working on for my major's studio, it involves memories of sayings that parents say that just sort of stick with you. I want to remove the context of the proverb and replace it with an image that kind of goes with the saying...

The project is still in it's very early stages of development, its a project I plane to work on for years and a half semester's time is not long enough for me to really flush any solid work out of it.

Anyways here is some of the concept work...

"Sit up straight" 1-3

The media for these are silk screen, monoprint, relief, and stencil.

the idea is exciting because it is open ended enough to where I could work on this project for years, but it's not so open that it is overwhelming. I will add more as I make them.

Intro

My name is Tim Daniels.

I grew up in a very small town in MA.
I currently go to Maine College of Art.
I am a printmaking major.
I am in my junior year.
I like to do different stuff outside printmaking too.
Such as design, sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, and some writing(but that I don't really share)
But I like making prints of stuff I do outside of printmaking the most.

Right now I am just looking for a way to network(I hate that word, but I don't know any better word to describe it) with other people who might have opinions about my work, and as a way to meet people who could give me help finding a job when I graduate. I feel like I am still really new to the concepts of printmaking but that I am picking up on them pretty quickly.

So I'll post some work, on my next post which will be VERY SHORTLY (like an hour or two to scan in the work)
